5 books about food (with recipes)

I love a good book about cooking. My Life in France is an all time favorite. Looking for something new to read? Need some new recipes to try? I give you, the best of books about life and cooking, written by chefs, who included recipes throughout. I suggest you read these in the kitchen, so you’re ready to cook as you go. 

Kitchens of the Great Midwest

1. Kitchens of the Great MidwestA novel written by a chef. It’s fairly new, and on a lot of fall book lists. Set in the Midwest, a young girl grows up raised by single dad and chef, who imparts his love of food on her. As she grows up she finds solace in the flavors of her native Minnesota (also the author’s home state).

2. Out to Lunch: Loss, friendship, love, and really good food. The loss of a best friend, a catering company, and a widower to care for, her live is altered. Author Stacey Ballis and her books have been compared to the likes of Jen Lancaster, Jennifer Weiner, and Emily Giffin.

Sweet life in paris

3. The Sweet Life in Paris: A pastry chef and cookbook author moves to Paris, to find it’s not the quite the dream he’d always had. Maneuvering through Paris life and social structures, he suddenly finds himself blending in, and wondering when did that happen. And did I mention he’s a pastry chef? Yeah, the recipes are amazing.

Sharper Your Knife

4. The Sharper Your Knife the Less You Cry: Who wouldn’t want to throw in the towel on the corporate life, head to Paris and take classes at the Cordon Bleu? This is one of those books you’re fulfilling a dream by living vicariously through the author. If you’ve ever felt the desire to channel Julia Child, and run away to Paris, this may be a book for you.

5. My Berlin Kitchen: When you think fine cuisine, you totally think Germany, right? Yep, me neither. The author is originally from Germany, and after a successful food blog, while living in the States, she decided to move back home, and get back to her roots. I’m completely intrigued by the idea of learning about a new cuisine. Maybe it’s my German ancestry, maybe its my complete lack of knowledge of what would be made in a Berlin kitchen.
